“Het ongrijpbare oeuvre van Koen Hauser (1972, Rijswijk) beweegt zich tussen massacultuur en kunst, waarbij de context waarin zijn werk wordt getoond veelal bepalend is voor de vorm. Op de dunne lijn tussen kunst en kitsch voert Hauser een theatrale balanceeract op.
Hausers presentatie in Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond is een tweeluik. Eén zaal is gevuld met een kermis aan vertederende, verontrustende en hilarische videobeelden, van waaruit we kunnen overstappen naar de rust van het videowerk Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen. Net als in eerder werk toont Hauser hierin het samenvloeien van het mannelijke en het vrouwelijke. Symbool voor metafysische transformatie en éénwording.
De Brakke Grond presents new work by visual artist Koen Hauser (1972, Rijswijk). His exhibition Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen is in two parts. A space is filled with a cacophony of image and sound. Alienating images of dancing breasts, a skin condition that moves and body parts in slow motion, the plasticity of our body confronts and surprises. Another space offers a place reminiscent of a chapel in a crematorium, in which our body is presented stripped of the superfluous. Male and female merge with one another to the poignant music of Mahler’s ‘Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen’.
